BEACON, NEW YORK -- I rented a van from U-Haul 538 rout 52, it was a 5.2 mile trip. I received a full tank of gas. The place I rented it from looks very much like a gas station with all the pumps and signs. So, I decided that on my returning the van I will patronize that gas station by filling up the van at the said gas station.

To my surprise, the agent said it is not a gas station and it would cost me about $50.00, according to the company policy.
BARE IN MIND THE VAN COST $19.95 to rent! He said if I give him $15 OR $20.00 he would fill it himself and the matter settle. I wound up giving him the $15.00 extra. What a rip off $50.00 for gas on a 5 mile trip. Never again will I rent from that UHAUL joint. I would not recommend that place to nobody.

Uhaul's website only says the they ask you to return return the truck with the same amount of fuel the you received it with, http://www.uhaul.com/FrequentlyAskedQuestions/#705 That would seem to leave it up to the franchise owner as to how they negotiate refilling the tank for you. Generally, with any truck or car rental, the company will charge you a premium for any gas they have to replace beyond what you started with. You can let Uhaul know that you're dissatisfied with this franchises service, though, by going to http://www.uhaul.com/Contact
