Vargas Motor World Complaint - Welching on a deal - Automobile Sales

Review by DinAustin on 2005-10-06
AUSTIN, TEXAS -- Memo Vargas, the owner of Vargas Motor World in Austin Texas is basically an amoral crook. I made a deal with him to purchase a car, we agreed on price and all the terms ---including allowing me time to take the car to my mechanic. I offered him a downpayment to hold it during the time it was being looked at. He refused the down payment saying it wasn't neessary and he trusted me. I told him I wasn't looking to find anything wrong with the car to re-negotiate the terms, I was merely taking it to the mechancic to verify all he had already told me about the car.

The next day, after I had made the appointment with a mechanic and was simply waitng to pick up the car to take it to the appointment, Mr. (I don't think he even deserves that title, but this won't let me give him the one he deserves) Memo Vargas called and told me he had made a "business decision" and sold the car to someone else. Never a call to ask me to even match the price or terms, never a call to even ask me to buy it without taking it to a mechanic.

DO NOT DEAL WITH MEMO VARGAS OR VARGAS MOTOR WORLD in Austin, Texas!!! His word is meaningless. His business morals are non-existant!!!

Memo Vargas, the owner of Vargas Motor World in Austin Texas is basically an amoral crook....my that puts it mildly....

I purchased an 1997 BMW 318i from him via ebay in March of 2008. I had done some research on Memo including his feedback profile on ebay and I did find he was a Realtor with Keller Williams Northwest Office in Austin. This gave me a little bit of confidence in that this guy was on the up and up.

We live in Idaho and we elected to fly to Austin and pick up the car and drive back. Sort of a mini vacation....Well the car was listed perfectly on ebay. All defects were noted and the car ran beautifully and is still running beautifully (if I could drive it),,,,Memo, said that the title to the car would probably be in our mail box when we arrived home or shortly thereafter as it had to be processed. No problem, no huge red flags as all recently purchased vehicles that I had seen in Texas had untitled temp tags on them.

Well....on our arrival home no title in the mail box so he had said it would be there by the time the temp tag expired. The tag expired and no title...I call Memo Vargas and asked what was going on and was told he would get on it as he has a secretary that took care of these things and she must have overlooked it. I went to the Idaho DMV and paid to have an extension tag (30 days) put on the car..........GUESS what...that tag expired on 6/14/2008 and I still do not have a title so that I can register this vehicle. I have a really nice BMW drive way ornament.....

I have called this crook everyday on any and every phone number I can find....Never an answer, nor a returned call or email. I know he is not DEAD as I have a cousin in Austin that met with him face to face this past Friday. He told him he would go get the title immediately and would call in in a couple of hours so he could pick it up....no phone call again

DO NOT DEAL with this man in any auto transaction< and I surely would not use him for my real estate needs as if he does this on a 4000.00 item what is he capable of on a home sale.....
