Lyon Travel Agency Informative - ticket confirmation - air line reservations

Our tickets for Air France were purchased through Lyon Travel for an Elderhostel Program. When we arrived at the Air France check-in counter at Charles de Gaul in Paris for our flight to Chicago-O'Hare on October 7th, we were told that the plane was over booked by fifty and were were placed on stand-by. Why, when our tickets were purchased at least 30 days prior, were we on "stand-by" status? (After much standing around in line, we were finally confirmed and did take off about two hours late.)

Your complaint is with the airline who overbooked you and not the travel agency. When an airline overbooks people with confirmed reservations, they put people on standby since they dont have enough seats. You had a confirmed reservation, but Air France didnt honor it because Air France screwed up and overbooked the flight.
