KANSAS -- I purchased a Grasshopper 48" zero turn mower with a Kohler motor on 9/11/11, from Barehuggers in Dunnellon, Florida. Purchase price of $6500.00.
As of 3/6/2012, this machine has broken down 6 times due to starter issues. The starter has been repaired 3 times at Bearhuggers then I was referred to another dealer for repair.
When the weather gets cold the starter will not engage properly and you can actually hear the teeth grinding.
The 2nd repair facility has offered on their own to buy the machine for $3000.00 - A nice gesture, but NOT acceptable.
This unit was delivered late from promised date, 2 bad tires and a missing battery belt when received.
At this point Grasshopper is going to replace the Kohler motor, which is going to take a week?? Lost monies in rental of another machine, time, gas, labor, 2 tires, and parts in excess of $800.00

Great first review racritelli. When you spend this kind of money you expect quality and not all of these problems. I'm surprised it has a Kohler motor, which is not known for reliability.

I have a John Deere which after two years of heavy usage has given me no problems. If you're not happy with the Grasshopper you might want to consider switching to a J.D.
