Don't ever use Kemper Insurance

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- I'm in a condo and my upstairs neighbor's shower was leaking into my unit. His insurance company, Kemper, spent three months avoiding my calls and claim.
First they sent an adjuster out and denied my claim, which was clear by California law. Then they sent the adjuster back when I explained the situation again. When he came the second time he told me he thought they had changed their minds and were sending a check. After that, I had to keep calling him for two entire months wondering when this check was arriving. He finally told me he didn't understand what they were doing and that I should start calling them directly,. They would not return my calls and then after a couple weeks of calling I finally got through and they told me again they were denying it.
I then hired a lawyer and they did not respond to his letter either! So I was forced to go to small claims court where the judge said it was a clear case and I was given complete vindication:.
The thing that was shocking not only was their lack of response to my phone calls and emails, but also how they ignored a letter from the lawyer, and then even when they wrote the check, continued to claim in the email to my neighbor that they still didn't think they were liable;. This is all without saying what a pain the whole water leak and resulting mold and string of repairs and the effects on the mold to my health were;.
Compared to every other insurance situation I have every been a part of, this was shocking, horrific and just completely unprofessional. I couldn't believe that I had to keep calling them for any sort of update to my claims or that they forced me to have to take my neighbor to court over something that is very clear under California law.
