Manager or employee - Complaint

SALINAS, CALIFORNIA -- I was in the store looking for products to purchase with my two year old daughter. I am Mexican and my English is not great. I asked regarding the Muscle Milk product and I noticed at Costco they have cheaper. I was living the store and I noticed they have a sing there stating "we price much, we bit by a buck" I went back to the store and the employee or he looked like the manager told me that they don't price much and I told him about the sign posted outside and he told me that I was not reading this accurate. So we begging with the conversation about the sign, and he told me the way that I read this it was not right and if I wanted to share my opinion with corporate level they will not take a consideration my opinion since it was a multimillion corporation and they will not listen a person like me and I felt really bad because I know that I have contribute to the wealth of this company with my two cents and I told him this and I said to him that I was disappointed because they don't see you then as a valuable customer and I thanked him and I took off.

Is there something you can do to get this issue to corporate level, do they here your opinion? Any ideas are welcome because I want to show this manager he was no right.

GNC claims to match a lower advertised price from a retail store competitor. Costco probably did not advertise the product.

You can add your name to their email list and receive promotional coupons via email. They also offer 15% off your next purchase.

If it was cheaper at Costco, go to Costco. No one is forcing you to spend money in that store. Doesn't sound like a particularly friendly place anyway.

First let me say... you are Mexican and your English is fine. You communicated your issue here and if we can understand, then the manager at GNC should understand it too. Please call GNC corporate office and tell them of your experience. They do listen. Don't let the manager let you think otherwise. 1-888-462-2548 It cannot hurt to try.

I agree with the others, something is not right at this store. I looked online and found a few references saying they will not be undersold, which leads me to believe they have SOME sort of price match policy.

Salinas is a very small town with a very low population of spanish speaking folks, but that is no excuse for that sort of behavior. I have racism!

A large number of retailers post that they will not price match membership stores like Costco. You have to look for it in the very fine print.

Raven, that is incorrect. I, unfortunately, live in Salinas and a majority of the population speaks Spanish. I would bet good money that is not a language barrier issue but a case of rude employee who doesn't understand company policy. Some of you may remember my letter to the mall here after their Mother's Day celebration that was entirely in Spanish. Since then, the mall has publicly declared that they are catering to the hispanic community. They have changed the mall decor and turned the area just outside of Sears into a Mariachi band stand. They have events celebrating Mexico's holidays. All the signage in the mall is in Spanish now. I seriously doubt the OP was discriminated against.

Salinas is just about 100% Latino now. It stems from the area growing up as a farming community. It has one very unique claim to fame. It is the Artichoke Capital of the World. They grow the biggest, tastiest Artichokes on Earth.
Posted by samanthasmom on 2012-03-18:
Raven, no worries, wikipedia is incorrect and even the official census isn't very accurate because we have a huge number of undocumented immigrants from south of the border here.

And Old Timer, the artichokes are 10 minutes away in Castroville :)

Salinas' claim to fame used to be John Steinbeck. But now its gang violence and a corrupt city government.

There's a reason why I moved from SoCal to Arizona. The violence was a main reason. Government another reason. Cost of living yet another reason. And I was tired of walking into a store and being forced to speak Spanish cause the cashier barely spoke English

I'm thinking what happened here is that the OP wanted GNC to price match Costco and GNC refused because Costco sells in bulk at a wholesale price. The Muscle Milk at Costco is a larger quantity than GNC carries. Sometimes our Costco carries the powder form (large canister) and sometimes they carry the liquid form (a case of 12 or 16 individual size bottles).

I have a question to anyone: will the Muscle Milk, miraculously, build up muscle mass in a skinny person? Yes, that skinny person is me.

Bottom line, Ricardo Maravilla was not treated well. All the small talk in the World will not change that fact for the OP. Rather than correcting every comment made on the thread we can instead focus on the issues? The OP wanted some help, not some pundit dissecting everyone's comments. Ricardo Maravilla, here is a link that can help you contact GNC about the issues you are seeking help with: http://www.gnc.com/helpdesk/index.jsp?display=store&subdisplay=contact&stillHaveQuestion=yes

Best of luck to you Ricardo, get back to us and let us know how it turns out, OK?

Sam, I remember your review about the Mothers Day event very well. I also remember the response I got from mall management, blaming it on the DJ. Apparently there wasn't much truth to that, as it now seems the intention was to eventually cater to their Spanish speaking clientele. You should go back and post that in your review so readers will know the truth.
