special data processing Complaint - possible credit card fraud

Review by clbradley@juno.com on 2001-11-27
NOT KNOWN, CONNECTICUT -- I received my credit card statement today and
one of the entries was a chg from travel adv.co, in ct.They were charging me for a membership that had been applied for back in july. Since I did not apply for this membership I called them. They told me that a special data processing co had submitted my last four digits of my credit card for a special membership for $1.00 that was now due for the full price of $69.99. I informed them that I had not outhorized that membership and wanted them to credit my acc't for the $69.99.
I asked for the companys' tele #, they said they did not have it but they agreed to credit my acc't. I have a cancellation code #
from the travel agency.
Since they did not have the phone # of the data processing co. that gave them the lead I felt that something was funny. I feel that someone in that data processing co. is feeding them members for a 'kick-back'. This may be all wrong but it is very suspicious.
I felt that you should know about this and let the proper people know what had happened, maybe there are more people in w/memberships that they never asked for and don't know it.

To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:

Let the proper people know about this incident and maybe head off something illegal that might be going on.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.
