PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- After seeing commercials from Empire Today Flooring, we decided to take advantage of the free home estimate. The ads said that you purchase one room of flooring and get two free. Not so!! The salesman came to our home and immediately tried to sell us the most expensive flooring he had saying that we would be better off. We explained that we had three more appointments scheduled with other companies and were just beginning to shop around. He then became very nasty. Insulting our style of home, ie. didn't like the way the roof was pitched, the porch steps...too high for him. He even insulted family pictures. He wrote up a contract and told us we had to sign it to receive the discounts, my husband did so when I left the room. I asked for the $100.oo check back and he said the cmpany would send it when we cancelled it. I have filed a complaint with Empire, and was promised "priority "call back, but have not gotten a call back.

Uh,oh. Sounds like a husband may spend a few nights on the couch.

If the salesman refused to give you back the check that should be a huge red flag. Stop payment on that check immediately. Next, send them a certified/return receipt requested cancellation notice.

Good luck.

Absolutely cancel that check. What a bonehead (the salesman). Thanks for posting this so others may benefit from your experience.

The first nasty comment that came out of the guys mouth would have been cause for him to be shown the door. There would be no signing of the contract regardless of any possible discount! Do what Chuck says and send it overnight. A lot of states only allow three days to cancel a contract.

If he would not give me my check back I would have called the police.

According to what I've read, he was a typical Empire salesman. They are aggressive people who strong arm potential customers into signing contracts. I would never let an Empire salesman step foot in my home.

reading other reviews of Empire this is standard procedure. High pressure one stop closers. Salesman is not a employee but an independent contractor who will say or do anything to get you to sign. Join the club of disgruntled Empire customers. Your estimates from others is most likely going to be 1/2 of the 'free' offers.

You have a three day right of recession. Cancel the contract NOW and never deal with these toads again. I get sick every time they blast their "sucker commercial." Buy one room of carpet and get two rooms free! Yeah right, they would be out of business in a month. Poor unsuspecting uninformed people get sucked into this trash hype then get ripped off big time. Stay away from these people!!!

you get the one room free cause your paying triple what you should have paid.

Ugh, pushy unprofessional salespeople like this mean either they aren't very good, or their product/service isn't. Either way, STOP THE CHECK.
