Winn Dixie - Gas perks scam

Complaint

SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA -- When Winn Dixie offered perks for cheaper gas we thought this is a great idea. But when we discovered that Winn Dixie uses the "Higher" priced gas stations, that are NOT conveinent to the area we shop in, we quickly saw the scam. These operators (more often than not) screw up the Winn Dixie card, then charge you for the higher priced fuel. If you choose to argue with them, they run you thru hoops trying to discourage you (what with other customers and all)so that you will just leave. We KNOW Winn Dixie knows about these practices. Since Winn Dixie's prices are inflated in the area anyway...it's probably best that we just shop ELSEWHERE. We'll be sure to pass along our gas perk experiences to our Winn Dixie shopping friends.

Does Winn-Dixie also operate their own fuel stations, like Kroger, Giant Eagle, and other grocery chains? If, in your area, they only contract with certain locations of a certain brand of gasoline, you may be better off shopping at a lower-priced store, and apply the savings to your fuel purchase. In some cases, the stores that do offer fuel discounts do charge higher prices on some items.

I have had no problem with using the card with the cashiers at the gas station and have received the proper discount with no problem each time. My problem comes in with the availability of gas stations. When I started using the card there were only two stations in the area that offered it, now there is only one, and no neither of them were really convenient, but the one I would use when I was in the area sometimes, now it is the one that no longer does it. Yes I had noticed that the prices are a bit higher with these stations, but I would wait until I got a significant discount to offset it. I didn't bother with the five cents a gallon discounts. I don't use Winn Dixie a lot though as their prices are considerably higher on a lot of items than my regular store. I only use them for items I can't find otherwise.

Fuel Perks is a fraud.

I'm sick of the stupidity around the fuel perks. I paid 20 dollars for 20 gallons of premium gas 2 weeks ago. Should have cost me well over 80 dollars. Maybe a Scam for the negative bumble brained. They didn't purposely choose the higher priced gas stations. Learn how to shop wisely and vary your choices and the fuel perks add up quickly. Forget the location problem, if a station announced that they would contribute $25 towards your fill-up and all you would have to do is take the 15 min. drive then all the naysayers would come running. And if you knew that gas was often 25 cents cheaper down the road from your regular gas station most would go running. So get smart or stop commenting.

Well sir, you haven't been in Auburndale, Florida have you.
The Winn-Dixie store here is a festering hive of scams and
vilany.

My MIL went to redeem her fuel perks this past Thursday,
3-21-13 only to be scammed at the pump. Her total fuel
perk amount was $3.10. The actual price of the gas was
$3.59 per gallon, which would have brought the price down
to just 49ยข a gallon with the perks.

What burns our asses was that she DID NOT receive the
full amount of the perks in question. She only received
$1.50 off on her gas purchase, and was only limited to
just 20 gallons at this price. We called their corprate
headquarters to complain, but to no avail. The staff there
was rude and sarchastic.

She bought over $800.00 in merchandise in a two-month
period to grow her perks to that amount ($3.10 off per
gallon) only to be swindled by this pack of criminals.

We are in the process of contacting the Florida Department
Of Consumer Affairs and the Federal Trades Commission
in Washington, DC.

A word to the wise: watch your back and your wallet
around these people lest you get swindled by them.
