LEESBURG, VIRGINIA -- First I have to say thank God I am not the only one having trouble with this company.

My wife works for Inova Health systems which is a Hospital here in VA. They used to offer Aetna coverage for prescription drugs and it was not bad. Over a year ago they decided to go with this 3rd party medication company, I did not think much of it till recently my wife was told that she was only to have 3 prescription refills with a discout which we only would pay between $15.00 to $30.00. Now they said her prescription will be $90+ dallars for a 2 week suply. This was for only 1 prescription for 1/2 the month.
My family of 4 takes about 5 different prescription medications which the same rule applies. Now imagine paying $90 x 5 = $450.00 + $90.00 for the remaining 2 week supply for my wife equals to a grand total $540 every month. Now multipy by 12 and this equals to $6480.00 per year on prescription medication.
Now they said they would offer a discount if we order thru the mail which would give us a discount of 20% of the $540 which will give you a total savings of $108. That would make my new monthly amount to $432.00.

Before all this folishness started I only paid a total $75 and $85 monthly.

Now lets do the math
Usual prescription payment copay was $85.00 per month which equals to $1020.00 per year

Now, I have to pay after 3 refills a total $432 per month which equal to about $3888 + $85.00 1st month + 85.00 2nd month + 85.00 3rd month = $4143.00 per year.

Between my wife and I we cannot afford to pay this amount, but what can we do?

There's a possible merger between Medco and Express Scripts that both companies claim will lower prescription rates for their customers, but until you see it, that's just talk. You could file a complaint at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/index.shtml
and you might also try talking to the benefits manager at Inova to see if there is some other way of getting your prescriptions that allows you to avoid using Medco.
