Rochester Hills Chrysler - Service Manager Lied

2009 Sebring - Complaint

ROCHESTER HILLS, MICHIGAN -- Took my 2009 Sebring in for minor warranty work. Service Tech told my wife that the brakes were 100% gone and the car was unsafe to drive. After review by another mechanic, brakes were found to be only 50% worn. Returned to the dealership and they affirmed this fact, offered a "stern reprimand" for the mechanic and a free oil change. I hardly think that is adequate compensation for the $600 unnecessary brake job they attempted to sell my wife. Do not take your car there for service. All follow up discussion has been met with lies and 1/2 truths by the service manager and general manager.

Did your wife actually pay the $600 for the brakes? If not, then I think what they offered you is plenty fair. I fail to see the need for any more follow-up. I'd say a miss is as good as a mile. Now you know to avoid this particular place and to always get a second opinion when it comes to doctors and mechanics.

If it works, don't fix it!!! That is about the best advice when going to auto mechanics. They will always make it appear worse than what it is. As clutzycook said, get a second opinion.

Try to look at it like this -- they did you a favor. You saw that you can't trust this dealership. You didn't get taken for $600 this time or more money next time. I would tell them to keep their oil change and find a mechanic that can be trusted.

How do you put a value on "compensation" in a case like this, where nothing was expended?

As spiderman said, from a glass half full perspective you now know to go elsewhere for professional service.

I would not use a dealer for routine maintenance/repairs. Find a good independent mechanic, where you will pay less and quite possibly get better work done. Just my .02
