Troybuilt - Bad Mower

troybuilt 42 inch lawn tractor
Review by mavuto on 2012-04-05
I own a Troybuilt pony 42 inch lawntractor, It is the worst mower I have owned, paid as much as the original purchase price in repairs from a bad transmission, bad throttle assembly speed control, mower deck parts. The tractor is noisy and feels like it wants to shake itself apart, the seven speed shift on the fly throttle even after repair has one speed, even with new belts can't make a shallow grade on the lawn. My first and last Troybuilt!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that you found out the hard way about Troybuilt, they're junk. Their products are mostly sold at Lowe's and Home Depot because of their low price point. The manufacturer is MDT in Cleveland Ohio. FYI they also make Cub Cadet. Consumer Reports rated this product with the highest repair history.

MDT also makes Bolens, Yard-man, Yard-machines, White Outdoor, Huskee, Ryobi and Remington. Now you know to stay away from these products also.

I have a John Deere lawn tractor which has had zero problems. I keep up with the maintenance and it has treated me well. Consider this if you want a well built reliable tractor.

Honda = best small engines out there. John Deere sprays their green paint on pressure washers.... Honda powered...

All John Deeres aren't what the reputation used to be either - you will find their green paint at home centers also, but avoid these low end machines.

International Havester Cub Cadet used to be known for good quality years ago, but you will see low end Cub Cadet stuff (now made my MTD) in home centers as well.

I have a Simplicity tractor from 1974 that runs like a tank and works great. They still make tractors but thankfully aren't popular enough to be in home centers, leading them to lower quality and price. You get what you pay for still rings true.
