Pepsi One is the only soda without aspartame

Complaint

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- I have been to 4 grocery stores, all the major drug/variety stores, and many delis, and no one except D'Agostino's is selling Pepsi One. Why is Pepsi not promoting it as the only non-carcinogen soda. Aspartame, which is in all diet sodas except Pepsi One causes liver shutdown and cancer. FYI, Aspartame is "Equal". Don't use it!
Pepsi One is sweetened with Splenda, famous from Dr. Atkins years ago and now also distributed under the Kirkland brand at Costco. But why can't the soda makers, esp. Pepsi move totally to Splenda instead of aspartame. It's an outrage. If any soda is "good for you", it's Pepsi One. Please I need it or I will be drinking hot tea all day which is very inconvenient. I cannot drink juice (too much sugar), cannot drink other sodas (aspartame and I am already a cancer survivor and need my liver), and I cannot sit near a kettle or coffee machine all day, esp. in Summer. And water is boring and expensive and ecologically irresponsible if bought by plastic bottle. HELP. We need our Pepsi One. PLEASE, PEPSI, PUT IT BACK ON THE MARKET!

My grandmother drank diet pepsi for a good 40 years. She lived to be 92 and besides having a little bit of breast cancer (hereditary in her family), she did not have liver problems. So i dont know, it may contribute to some people but it certainly hasnt contributed to my family. The diet pepsi did not cause her breast cancer thats for sure. Most my family drink it and most of them do not have cancer.

The formula goes something like this:If a 1 pound rat eats 40,000 pounds of aspartame it has a 2% higher risk of developing cancer. Not really but you get the picture.

Alternatively you could also just drink regular Pepsi, it doesn't have aspartame. Or if you also happen to have an aversion to HFCS, then there's always Pepsi Throwback.

I think if you researched a bit Aspartane would have to be consumed in the gallons per day to have an effect on the liver. Any sweetener in pop still has a negative effect on blood sugar which is far more damaging than the fake sugar.

most of these artificial sweeteners gives me a headache, even from one little packet.

very helpful review!

If aspartame in the amounts involved was shown to cause cancer, it wouldn't be in the product. That's my take on it.

However, I've heard some complaints about the taste of Pepsi One, so maybe it would be wise to try different ingredients.

"If aspartame in the amounts involved was shown to cause cancer, it wouldn't be in the product. "

By that logic then is it safe to assume there's not enough tobacco in a cigarette to cause cancer?

The OP makes a great point.

best comment Churro!

Churro, I was going to state the same comment, but changed my mind.

Aspartame, other artificial sweeteners, and many other potentially harmful ingredients are found in thousands of food products, so ingesting a small, purportedly benign amount in one product does not accurately reflect the total amount ingested when taking one's overall daily diet into consideration or how long the substances are stored in the body, and how, if at all, the buildup over time could affect the body and its organs.

Really, this is why I try to avoid drinking soda as much as possible. Making your own iced tea is a good way to avoid things like this.

Not to mention that Splenda isn't much better for you than Aspartame. http://www.3fatchicks.com/11-sucralose-side-effects/

Soda, in general, is bad for you
Posted by trmn8r on 2012-04-06:
Interesting point, Kris. I make homemade iced-tea year round, and put a small amount of sugar in it when it is hot, so it dissolves. I know what's in it, because I put it there.

If I drank smaller quantities, an occasional soda I might indulge. When I had one a day, it definitely had an affect on my health. Each to his own.

Soda is bad for you, but it's so dang addictive and tasty.

The real problem is man, madc. Man cannot simply let things "be". Nature has provided the biosystems of earth with the perfect foods, but man, in his infinite arrogance, thinks he knows better than nature and has sought to pervert it, and has, to his own detriment.

mrm soda is the curse to many overweight children.

like stevia, it is a natural plant, not some chemical that is man made.

Man Lexo is on fire on this one.

But there are warnings on cigarette packages to alert you to the dangers of the product (allowing you to make a more informed decision to use the product or not). Pepsi doesn't warn you (last time I checked) of any potential danger. As such, I am assuming it's okay in normal quantities.

Are eggs good or bad this week?

Drink enough water and that too can kill you.
Posted by Nohandle on 2012-04-07:
Good question about the eggs Chuck. My parents went through that and I recall my mom stating the doctors couldn't make up their minds about shrimp at that time. One week they were fine to eat the next bad for your cholesterol. She finally decided you had to eat something so eat what you liked. Seriously, many have reached that point. They are weary of the warnings about everything.
