MICHIGAN -- Exactly 1 week ago today I invested in the purchase of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala for $20k. According to Carfax, this vehicle had been purchased new by Hertz and had been used as a personal rental/lease by 1 party, then sold at auction to land at a local dealer. It was at this local dealer where I purchased it. I thought then, as I do now, that obtaining service/maintenance records from the previous owner to be a prudent decision, since I tend to keep vehicles for a while, given all the bells and whistles this info would come in handy later on down the road, I like things neat and tidy, especially for the next owner, and it makes good business sense. I contacted said Hertz branch office only to be told that such records are "proprietary" and as such are never offered or available at any cost to (the consumer.)Is this not laughable or what ?????

unless its a private party sale its pretty unlikely to get service records especially when your buying form a corporate type entity.
