SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- Frequently you read about consumers complaining about the terms and conditions for the AMEX GIFT CARD. The limited liquidation provisions (NO CASH FROM ATM) are a common complaint.
Here's the facts. BEFORE you use the card, read the terms and conditions. If you don't agree with them (first use implies agreement), then call AMEX and ask for a refund. REASON- YOU DON"T APPROVE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
I received a $500 gift card. In 3 weeks, I received a refund check for $500. Straight forward return policy. You might be talking to an untrained agent. For example, since the card was purchased at Safeway, I was initially told I had to return the card at Safeway. Obviously this was ridiculous given I was not the purchaser only the gift recipient and had no receipt. I spoke to the supervisor and no further questions. They just sent the check. Only issue - waiting up to a month to receive the check. But given I estimated it would take up to 6 months (with store acceptance issues) to spend the $500, it was acceptable to wait.
I exhaustively researched online web reviews and all I see are complaints. NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT this policy. When asked if you accept the Terms and Conditions, just say NO.
