TD Visa Elite Complaint - NO Respect For Current Customers

Review by Jackwenb on 2005-10-29
Recently TD Visa ran a bunch of promotions to get new customers to apply for their cards. One such promotion was by TD VISA ELITE. This is a credit card you have to pay an annual fee for and get 1% of your purchases rebated to you once a year. My wife and I have had these cards since Feb. 2002 and pay $138.00 a year for both. The promotion to get new customers would rebate them 2% on all purchases until Dec.31 of this year. When I called to complain, TD Visa's marketing people tried to explain that it was an initiative to attract new clients. I made it very clear that your should never "tick off" your current customer base but they didn't seem to care. As luck would have it, MBNA bank called this past week and offerd 1% rebate with NO annual fee. Granted there are some of the services missing, but we will not be renewing our TD Visa come February. I hope anyone else who has had a TD Visa Elite card will reconsider how little TD seems to appreciate or deserve our Business.

Many companies use this method to attract new customers. Why not apply for another credit card from them and after the 2% rebate is discontinued, cancel the card? I've done this many times and later checked my credit report to be certain it shows the card was canceled at my request.

I've never understood why people complain about new customer offers. You see, once upon a time, this person was a new customer and probably took part in some form of new customer offer. I'm fairly sure that at the time, this person didn't think to themselves "Gee, I should feel ashamed of myself, because I'm getting a deal that the current customers are getting and that's totally not fair to them." It seems really hypocritical to me.

It's for new customers only! Why do you feel that you should get it as well?
