SPRINGFIELD, ARKANSAS -- I'm 70 and money is short. I bought 4 1 lb packages of ground beef. Opened one to cook and it contained 1/4 a pound of thick pink ground fat. If I had wanted to buy fat I would have. I won't make the same mistake again of buying this product.

Was this ground beef that came in plastic-wrapped chubs? This type of ground beef is typically sold at Walmart and at off-price food stores that do not have full service meat departments. Those meats often have preservatives and are ground from second-rate beef. I wouldn't be surprised if that ground beef also contained "pink slime". I once bought a 5-pound chub of ground beef from Walmart, and I was disappointed with it. The meat was bloody, and after a month or so in the freezer, had an off smell and taste. I prefer to buy freshly-ground beef from a full service supermarket or butcher shop.
