Avis - Bogus Gas Charge

PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA -- Two days ago in Palm Springs I returned an Avis car after having filled it with gas a mile or so away from the Airport. The check-in person outside the terminal asked me if the car was filled. I assured him that it was. He again asked and I again answered. When I got to the Avis counter inside the terminal I learned that I had been charged for gas! They removed the charge at the counter upon my complaint. I could have let this pass except the exact same thing happened to me with Avis in Marquette, MI, last August. I do not plan to use Avis again until/unless I hear from their top management that this behavior in small remote airports will stop NOW!

You didn't agree to that relatively new thing where you agree before renting they will charge you for a full tank, did you? That's all I can think of.
