LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY -- I was totally deceived by Hotwire. I booked a hotel room in Savannah, GA. Hotwire displayed $115(at other sites)$66 Hotwire (Great Deal checkmark) and a 3 Star rating. I looked at the potential 3 star listing, such as DoubleTree by Hilton, Four Points by Sheraton, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts Hilton Garden Inns, Homewood Suites by Hilton and other brand-name and independent hotels. I was certianly under the impression that I would end up in one of those hotels.

To my surprise I was assigned Days Inn ($84.66). I went to the Days Inn site and found that they are selling the room for $86.44 including tax. I saved a huge $2 discount. wow!!! Our previous experience with DI has been terrible. It is a 2 star or less hotel in most circles. I called Hotwire to complain, the attendant and supervisor had their own version of how Hotwire grades star and wouldn't cancel my booking. I think this is highly misleading and deceptive. I thought I was a getting a great hotel, but had to settle for less; I thought I got a great deal, but only to find the hotel was offering about the same price. This really sucks. Hotwire is deceptive and doesn't stand behind their advertisement.

can anyone tell me why they do NOT just call the hotels 800 number for reservations instead of using hotwire, priceline, etc? This way you know exactly what hotel you have and do not have any surprises.

I, too, wouldnt use 3rd party to book hotels. But, I do use 3rd party to book a flight.
