Info for all motels Informative - Choosing or refusing rooms

Review by retiree on 2005-11-01
Prior to working at a Super 8 with really cheap owners, I hadn't thought twice about hotel cleanliness. Now I carry my own basic bed linens, something sadly hard to do if not driving. I never make a reservation with the 800 number, they get it wrong as many times as having correct info. Third parties may get you a cheaper room ;but you may not want it and you're stuck with the bill. I call the motel directly, verify rates, make reservatins. Two days before I plan to arrive, I call again asking about rates. (they do change and you may get a cheaper rate) If the rate is less, make a new reservation and cancel the old. Do not check in and pay for your room before seeing it. If you check in late and they tell you that you will be billed, just call the CC company and block the charge and tell them you are going to as the room is not clean and fit to sleep in. If not satisfied, just leave. I never use the blankets in a room. I always tell the laundry room attendant or front desk that I am cold, could I please have a second blanket. The second one will come from the clean laundry.

Ugh, thanks for the info. Sad to see how bad hotels have gotten. We always toss the comforter, first thing, when we go into the room. The tip on the cost is helpful too.
