SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- San Francisco has plenty of potholes and when I hit one I hear the plastic covers hit the wheels. San Francisco Toyota's response has been that this is 'normal' and their 'remedy' was to apply a coat of oil that lasted 2 days. I have asked both Toyota and the dealer to supply one of two different styles and they have REFUSED.

Next time you're at the dealership see if you can test drive a new Taco with wheel covers, and see if they make the same noise. If it does, then it's likely just a problem with the potholes, not the truck, if the truck doesn't make any noise, then there may be an issue with your truck specifically, and they should replace the wheel covers, or possibly offer you a set of real wheels for a discounted rate.

If the truck drives fine on a normal road without making a noise, then there's no problem with the vehicle. Any weird sounds that occur when hitting a bump, hole or obstruction are thing you have to live within my opinion.

I agree with Fiddle Dee. This isn't a problem a dealer is likely to fix. I would investigate materials that might be placed in between the offending surfaces such as double-sided tape, to keep them from coming in contact with each other.

Move to a city or state which has smoother roads, like Texas, Arizona, or Las, Vegas, Nevada, like a number of you californians have, and keep your hub caps.

Arizona has tons of rocks all over the roads. They hit the windshield, tires, hood, doors, etc.
