Budget Rent-a-Truck Compliment - Great, smooth moving experience.
When I had to move from Utah to Texas, I first naturally checked with Uhaul for my moving truck needs. The rate was around $1000 for 6 days in August, but a month later, it jumped by $300 for the same journey. It turned out when I checked back with Budget that their price had dropped by about the same amount and now was the orignial $1000 I had planned on (for a slightly larger truck than uhaul).
When I made the reservation with Budget I told the agent about my plans, that I wouldn't be able to move in until the day after the truck was due in Texas, and she threw in an extra day so I wouldn't have to pay extra. The truck was in great condition, clean, nice to drive, working radio (which makes a 3 day drive much nicer). We got furniture pads which came in very handy, and a dolly that we never used. We had to fuel up about 1.5 times a day, at about $80 a tank, but that's to be expected with a truck so big (so we added another $500 to the price in fuel).
When it came time to return the truck, we were about 100 miles over the given milage and 30 minutes late at the drop-off (but as it turned out they closed 30 minutes before we had to have it back). I used the key drop and called 3 or so days later to see how much I owed for the extra miles, and they told me that I wouldn't owe anything! They credited the $100 deposit to my credit card!
After hearing the terrible reviews for uhaul, I was a bit hesitant to drive a rental truck across the country to save on the movers. But after my experience, I would highly recommed using Budget to take on the task.
