Meijers - Deceptive sale flyers/advertising practices
Offers coupon or gift certificate if you buy X amount of merchantise - Complaint
CORPORATE OFFICE GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN -- Meijers is a Michigan based mega store. Nearly every week Meijers fliers advertises promotions ie if you buy frozen potatoes or a certain brand of TV dinners or dog food or coffee etc, they promise a coupon for $3, $5 even $10 off on your next visit. A computer generated coupon is suppose to print the offer however if you use the self serve check outs, which don't have printers - no coupon for you. Other times the printer at the cashier station is out of paper and so you don't get it. Other times the clerks forgets to give it to you with the receipt. One time the clerk saw me walk away without my five dollar coupons and I heard her say to her fellow employee "did you want it? WHY WAS THE CUSTOMER NOT OFFERED THE COUPON? o I blame Meijers corporate offices for permitting employees to withhold customers coupons as a job perk? If I buy the specified items that coupon is rightfully mine and only mine!!
I don't understand how the Michigan Attorney General can permit this shady business practice to continue for decades. Efforts to seek recourse at the "Service Desk" are futile cause they think you are taking a 'perk' the employees have come to enjoy. Either a customer should get the advertised bonus item or they don't. It shouldn't depend on how 'lucky' a customer is or if the cashier/service desk employee is feeling charitable.
