Bloomingdales - Bloomingdale Harassment

Late Fees - Complaint

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- At the beginning of the year, I received an invoice from Bloomingdales indicating a zero balance and a late fee.
I owed nothing and refused to pay that fee. The next month I received a new invoice - this time with a late fee added to the already fraudulent late fee. I again refused to pay and the harassing phone calls started. Twice a day-early in the morning and later in the day. Sometimes within half an hour of each other. Initially, I explained at first, but as the frequency increased I just became angry.

Once an attendant finally took some positive action and removed some fees, but the next month they were back. Finally I told them to cancel my account, but unfortunately they have already lowered my credit rating, and the phone calls still continue. I feel like I am in a Kafkaesque nightmare with absolutely no legal recourse, and it does not feel good.

I do know that I have walked with my pocketbook. I will never buy anything in Bloomingdales or the parent company Macy's, again.

It seems a very poor policy decision for Macy's to harass people who purchase thousands of dollars worth of goods from them, to the point that they close their accounts; as well as not an intelligent cost effective solution to have their personnel spending $4 a call in resources to chase an effective bill of zero value. They have probably spent over $500 chasing this bill. No wonder Bloomingdales is in financial trouble.

Macy's/Bloomingdale's collections department works off an automatic dialer. If they don't reach you, their dialer will continue to call a few more times that day. This is legal and not considered harassment. That late fee could have resulted from paying your last payment a few days late. If that's the case, then yes, you would owe that money. Failure to pay will cause late fees to be added to the first late fee and they will start calling you.

When you paid the bill to zero was that payment late? When you received the first bill for the late fee did you contact them and ask why it was there and ask for it to be removed or did you just ignore it?

I do not owe the money and they continue to add late fees despite my responses to them and the cancellation of the account

What is Bloomingdale's explanation for charging you dawn?

You didn't answer the first two questions. Is it possible your last payment was late?

If those are legitimate late fees, then cancelling your account does not make them go away. You still owe that money.

No. It was not.
In fact they removed them once and then they came back again.
I have filed a complaint with state Atty general.
The only reason I am posting this is I feel impotent to have Bloomingdales resolve this correctly after repeated attempts.

I had about an $1,800 balance from Christmas - I had been late 1 payment (only one in all years having an account) I started being hounded 2 times a day by a rude person. I told her I was an excellent customer and if it continued I was closing my account - immediately paid on line $1.000 - and still called - bye bye bloomies. funny thing is I had just received their black card - also when I called them - they told me it is separate and King of Prussia Bloomies couldn't help me. Norstrom is and always will be my store to go to - i own always and always pay off - they are a class one store - don't go to one that compares to a walmart mantality
