Google, Inc. - Improper Regard for Memorial Day

Complaint

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA -- Google's sign on page, where the word Google is often modified and morphed into letters that relate somehow to a particular holiday or celebration, is where my complaint is. I love the feature; however, when I signed on today, MEMORIAL DAY 2012, there was a tiny, tiny United States flag w/ a yellow ribbon across the front of it. The flag was not even the size of one of the Google letters !!

I took this as a blatant insult, as a proud American. Clearly, this was an intentional affront to our country, where soldiers die daily for the right of some jerk to make a political statement in this way. Yet, on the 675th birthday of some man, usually, who is hardly known is an elaborate enhancement of the word Google. Please remind the person who does this artwork, is, first and foremost, in the United States of America and whose paycheck is provided by that company. My hunch is that the individual doing the work is not an American and likely not even a citizen.

Well, at least they acknowledged the holiday.

I really don't think the main purpose of "Google Doodles" (That's what they're called) is to celebrate specific holidays every year. They seem to be something you click on to get more information about a topic or person you may not have heard of before. They also appear not to like reusing the same Doodles over. So there may have been an elaborate Doodle another year but they did not have an original design to use this year.

The head designer of the Doodles is named Dennis Hwang, and he has been working for Google's head office for over 12 years.

You think that is insulting? Go to Sears facebook, it isn't Memorial Day, it is "We hope you’re stocked up on ketchup, Happy National Burger Day!" Now that is insulting!

I don't find anything insulting on the internet. Just look around - there's trash everywhere.

That yellow ribbon acknowledges our troops who are abroad fighting for us and who won't be here to kick back with beer and burgers today, doesn't it? I kind of like that, personally.

I am more insulted by all the sites that turn this day into a sales event. Google is showing respect in a refined classy way in my opinion. Remembering our troops does not require an elaborate doodle that would distract from the true meaning... Just my opinion though.

I don't have a problem with it. They are simply going with a "Less is more" approach. IMHO the OP is overreacting.

Personally I liked the simple Memorial Day acknowledgement Google did. Not at all a "look at me" approach that many commercial entities do.

Also, I just wanted to add that they appear to make a custom Doodle for the 4th of July every year.

You can see an archived list here: http://www.google.com/doodles/finder/2012/All doodles

It's the meaning, not the size.
Size doesn't matter. But, I do understand what you're saying.

Let's see without our soldiers there would be no google, no democracy and no free enterprise. As brilliant as the minds are at Google, they could do something a bit more brilliant than they decided to do. It seems to me the minority has the say these days over the majority.
