OCOEE, FLORIDA -- I purchased a ebook for my grand daughter's 11th birthday the thing was so poorly made that after only 30 days it was falling apart. I took it back expecting to get her a replacement when they informed me the item was no longer in stock and that all they could do was give me a store credit minus the $25 I paid for the warranty. What is the point of buying a warranty on a product if the store won't even honor it?T o me it seems like a greedy ploy set in place by the company to rip off there hard working customers with there bogus warranties and return policies. I left with a lousy store credit and a disappointed grandchild, I will never shop at Best Buy again I am even reluctant to return to this store to use the credit that they issued me due to the poor customer service I received from the store manager Henry (west oaks location).Needless to say I will be getting my grand daughter a new tablet from another store.

There was no way to give you a replacement, so at that point having it repaired would be the way to go, under the manufacturer's warranty.

If you opted to not have it repaired under warranty, I can see why they wouldn't refund the extended warranty (unless there are terms in it that you feel were not honored).

Who manufactured this POJ?

if you want a warranty and a company that will stand behind that warranty, I suggest COSTCO for all your electronics; and the warranty is free.

She said she took it back after the 30 days so she returned it after the return period was up. The only reason she got the store credit was because she had bought the warranty so they are not going to refund the cost of the warranty. It sounds like she either didn't want it fixed or it was not fixable. She could try other Best Buy stores and see if they have any of them left.

What probably happened is that the item was discontinued so they couldn't swap it out with another one. And the item isn't a repairable item, it's replacement only. So what they do is give you your money back. And by doing so the extended warranty is considered fulfilled and you don't get the money you paid for it back.

The extended warranty runs congruently with the manufacturer's warranty, in the event that it's invoked, and the item is replaced or in your case a refund is given, as I mentioned before, it's considered fulfilled. The only slightly iffy thing here is that if the item failed after 30 days and it was determined that it was due to a manufacturing defect and not wear and tear or user-inflicted damage, then the manufacturer's warranty should have covered it, and the extended warranty's cost should've been reimbursed to you. But if you did what trmn8r mentioned and opted to have it replaced, then you wouldn't get the cost of the warranty reimbursed.

FYI: If you buy a TV or other specified electronic product at COSTCO they automatically DOUBLE the manufactures warranty. Then you can buy a dirt cheap 5 year in home extended warranty for $100 or less. I just got this deal on a high end ($3400 retail) Samsung 55 inch LED TV. Wait it gets better. They have a "Concierge Service" where you can call them for free tech support. Try getting this deal at Best Buy.

The warranty covers product replacement or reimbursement. Being outside of the return window your warranty was fulfilled.

I am surprised they didn't advise you to go to the manufacturer though. Did you ask for a refund right then? If the manufacturer replaces the item then your Best Buy warranty would still be active.

The Best Buy warranty will never be reimbursed unless you return the item flat out. It makes no difference how recent the purchase was. If you are outside the return window then the warranty was there to help cover you.

Warranties on tablets are always a good idea because those things fail at an incredibly high rate and retailers hate them.

You purchased a "2-year" plan. The mfr ALWAYS covers year 1. You got a 2nd year warranty in effect.

Cruel mgr trick as your unit could have been sent out for repair at no cost to you OR as most other retailers would have done a courtesy exchange being that close to the purchase date. BBY always acts in the store's interests first.

Call the service plan administrator on the back of the paperwork and ask for a refund.

@kaluha35 - the vast majority of tablets do not break - that statement is absurd. Warranty plans across the board are offered because the "House" wins the bets the vast majority of times - these are actuarial calculations based on risk. There is NO published statistic that supports ANY service plan in the consumer electronics industry.
