Don't Get Clearwire's Service
Internet and Home Phone Service - Complaint
DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA -- I just spent 28 minutes on the phone trying to cancelled my no contract internet and home phone services with Clearwire. The only way to cancel is to call them and then they put you on hold and then give you a hard sell to try to keep you. You are billed for an entire month and there isn't any pro-rated refunds as mentioned on their website when you cancel.
The service (when it worked) was OK. Speeds varied from very little (maybe. 3 mbs to maybe 4). Most of the time the download speed was about 1.0 and the upload was about 0.5. The phone service worked but I got many complaints from others that they could not hear me too well or that I was breaking up.
I called Clearwire and chatted online with them many times about losing the connection. When it went out it would stay out for about 3 hours - normally on weekend mornings. They would listen but basically did nothing. I moved the modem everywhere, put homemade antennas near it(which helped a great deal). I probably spent at least 50-100 manhours getting the best signal possible over the course of a year..
The bottom line is don't get this service. The technical people are no help. There are better services out there for internet and phone at a cheaper cost.
