Breyers makes a really good lactose free ice cream. If you didn't know it was lactose free, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Yes there are a lot of people with lactose intolerance, but that doesn't mean that all ice cream and dairy products should be banned. That's like banning all peanut products because millions of people have peanut allergies. BTW, there are a lot of other foods besides milk that has Vitamin D in them. Foods such as; veggies, meat, fish, legumes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't lactose naturally occurring in milk and milk products? And if people are afraid of lactose-related GI issues, there's always lactose-free products.

Exactly my point Clutzy. I have to be careful with dairy. I drink soy milk and I eat lactose free ice cream. There are other options out there.

Lactose is naturally occuring in both milk from cows and human milk. Tbe US, Europe and Australia have the lowest incidences of lactose intolerance - it is about 10% in the US.

For those who are intolerant, there are products without it available.

I've never had any problem with milk or ice cream...but any cheese (and I LOVE cheese) will get me every time. Thank goodness for Imodium!!!

I was stripped to the waist, eating a block of cheese the size of a car battery!

I am lactose intolerant. It has such a bad effect on me that once I was out of work for a week because of being so sick from it. However, I am able to enjoy dairy products because of taking a supplement such as Lactaid. Even though 1 tablet is the 'serving size', I must take 3 tablets. OP, try it and you will be able to enjoy dairy again.

"Milions of people do not drink milk or eat ice cream because of the lactose chemicle in it."

Millions more without lactose sensitivities do. Also lactose is naturally occurring. It's not some man made chemical pumped into the milk or anything.

Frankly it would be an asinine idea to ban dairy products just because there are some people who have digestive issues with them. Imagine if we banned everything that someone, somewhere was allergic to. There literally wouldn't be anything left to eat or drink.

Tommy, no offense intended but don’t we have enough bans in this country as it is? I personally feel it's up to each individual to determine what he is allergic to/able to eat without including an entire nation. I have a dear friend who is allergic to shellfish. She has never once suggested shellfish be banned from restaurants or grocery stores.

Why must everyone be subject to the problems of others? If I were allergic to water should it be banned as a public utility? Electricity can kill. Should that be banned as well? How about automobiles? War? Now there would be a worthwhile ban!

My thoughts exactly, Chuck.

Nobody should, Chuck. Like Buddy01, I am lactose intolerant. I'm not "afraid" that I will get diarrhea from drinking milk or eating ice cream, I KNOW I will. I either take something beforehand, or avoid real dairy products altogether.

Just like with hard-boiled eggs, I know that if I eat eggs, it will release deadly methane gas, but I eat it anyways.

We switched to Soy Milk, now we like the Almond Milk. There are ways to work around the problems. I can't eat Gluten, those that can, enjoy!!

Ive tried soy milk and I didnt like to be drinking milk that tastes like yogurt. I prefer eating Fruity Pebble cereal in regular milk.

I'm allergic to sunlight (legitimately, it's been diagnosed by a dermatologist and everything). So let's ban the sun! Because clearly banning something that occurs naturally is a great idea. [For the record, sunblock doesn't help. I've just learned to either stay out of the sun or deal with the consequences, much like most people with lactose intolerance do with lactose-containing products.]

Ban the sun? Now there's a bandwagon I'd like to jump onto!!!
