Regence Bluecross Of Utah - The Run Around!

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- Trying to get pre-authorization for surgery is a joke. Regence Bluecross has everything from my Dr that they need to authorize the surgery. I've been given 3 different dates that they said they received everything from my Dr. I am beyond frustrated! Their customer service stinks! They can't give me a straight answer and don't know what step of the review my case is in. They say it takes 15 days for a decision but on the 15th day they can ask for more information or tests and then it will take another 15 days for them to review the new stuff. Get the idea of the run around and them dragging their feet! I personally printed their requirements for authorization of surgery and gave it to my Dr who then gave them exactly what they need! My surgery is supposed to be on the 25th. It's the 20th!! My frustration level is at a 10!

This is Joanna from Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the preauthorization process. I’d like to try and help. I’d recommend calling the customer service number on the back of your card and asking to speak with a supervisor who can help sort things out.

You might try enlisting the services of Utah's consumer agency to see if they can assist in moving things along a bit quicker or to file a complaint with them: http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov
