AUSTIN, TEXAS -- I went to Walgreens on Monday to re-fill a prescription and was told I needed to come back on Wednesday; that I was a couple days too early for the refill; and that it will be re-filled and ready for pick up at that time. Returned on Wednesday at 5:15 PM in the drive-thur; (waited for 2 cars in front of me to process there orders; about 10 minutes) once I got the the window I was told the prescription was not ready, I asked how long of a wait for it to be ready (as I was told it would be ready already on Monday) I was told about 15 - 20 minutes; but if you come inside I can have it ready in about 10 minutes. I then asked to speak with the Pharmacy Manager (Adam [snip]) he said; he could have the persciption done in about 2 minutes; I told him great I will wait for it; then he said; no you can not wait for it; there are cars behind you and you will need to come back to pick it up; I told him I wanted to wait for my prescription that should have been done already; he again said no you can not wait; and if you do "I will have to call the cops to make you move your car". This is the type of service WALGREENS offers to paying customers.

Could you have driven around and got back in line?

I hate when people complain about waiting in line, and then expect the people behind them to wait while they purposely hold up the line.

The Pharmacy drive thru window is for drop offs and pick ups, not waiting for perscriptions to be filled. Customers who want to wait for their perscriptions, wait in the the store, you never see someone in line inside the store waiting for them to fill a perscription...ya gotta step out of line and be called to the window when it's ready.

Yes, they should have had it ready when they said it would be...but it's not a guarentee. Whenever you have to go back another day for pick up, it's always a good idea to call first and verify if it is ready for pick up.

In this case, if you didn't want to go inside, the best option would have been to circle around to the end of the line, by that time your two minutes would have passed.

I agree with Walgreens on this one.

I compare what happened to you with what happens as a walk-in pharmacy customer, and I have had identical experiences except for the part of waiting at the counter and not allowing anyone behind me to be served during the wait. I would never try to do that, but if I did I am quite sure the CSRs would direct me to step aside. This is like an etiquette kind of thing, and it is designed to move everyone through as efficiently as possible.

Yes it was frustrating, yes you were upset and yes you were out of line. There was no reason to take your frustration out on the staff at the store, or the people waiting in line. Other people have offered options you could have used to resolve the issue - circle around, go in the store, get out of line on your own accord, to kill time or call in advance. It is not ok, to make others wait just because what you want isn't being given to you.

I can see both sides of this. If the OP was told it would be ready on Wednesday then it should have been ready when the OP went to pick it up, not just being filled. The manager said it would take 2 minutes to fill so there was no reason for the OP to have to get out of line and go into the store. The OP should have been allowed to wait the 2 minutes. The OP already waited 10 minutes now Walgreens is saying wait longer we don't want to inconvience anybody else.

If it takes two minutes to fill the prescription, it will then take an additional 2 to 5 minutes to have it paid for and the transaction completed. So the OP is not talking about holding people up for 2 minutes, but for 5 to 8 minutes, which is not appropriate behavior.

This is defintely someone who works there at the store talking in all these posting. Maybe the manager. That is wrong for him to use threats to call the cops. Who does that. Your prescription should be ready when you pick it up.
