A simple floor lamp - Complaint

BYHALIA, MISSISSIPPI -- I'd heard and read the many bad reviews about Overstock.com over the years, but this was just a floor lamp, so how badly could they mess that up?

Turns out, it comes needing assembly, which would have been simple if the poor Chinese person who put the parts in the box hadn't welded the base on wrong, so that the stalk can't be securely screwed into it.

I assembled the whole thing, then lifted it, and the base fell off. I tried to screw it in again, but it really just doesn't catch - the thread are not working because a washer is welded on at a 45o angle instead of flat.

The bottom of the packing slip says, "You are a valued customer" so I called to challenge them to honor that phrase. I told them the product is defective, that I'd spent a hour finding it online, then ordering, then waiting, then unpacking, assembling, repeatedly trying to make it work right...could I just take a photo of the broken part and mail it in? no.

I have to unassemble, box up, drive to the UPS, pay the shipping and have it sent back to them. Then I can either go back to trying to find a style I like (assuming they really refund me) or I can wait for them to ship me another ...which is likely to be defective too, I'm guessing.

I am thinking I'll just take the loss and spend as much time as possible writing negative reviews about them whenever I can. I am SO sorry to report that every bad thing you've heard about this company is true.

This is a risk of using mail order. I'm not sure why you assume they are all this way.

As far as obtaining the part you need, it makes sense that the entire thing has to go back. It's a pain, I know. With this stuff from overseas, it is likely they don't have spare parts and don't deal with pulling the boxes apart to exchange parts.

I wouldn't use Overstock to buy a keychain.
