BellSouth Complaint - Your Line is My Responsibility?
We had a problem with a phone line in South Carolina. We called Bell South from the outside box and the rep was aware of the problem (loud hum), obviously one that was outside (their responsibility)not inside. Bell South came out to repair it stating that the line had appeared to be hit by lightning. They did some temporary repairs and about 3 weeks later, we were still having a problem with a very loud "hum" in our line. We again called Bell South and they came out. They never did find the source, and we still had the problem. The tech came into the house to try to locate the source, no luck. Suddenly we get the phone bill with an $85.00 charge for the repair. Bell South refused to reverse the charge. For some reason, not only the representative but her supervisor suddenly got stupid. They insisted that the lines from the pole to the house are our responsibility. I don't think the Public Utilities Commission would agree. We spent over an hour on the phone with these two uneducated jerks and finally just told them to shut off the phone - we'll use our mobile and give our money to Verizon instead! The moral of the story is that once they step foot inside your house, it's your problem and you're going to get the bill....if you know it is an outside problem....DON'T LET THEM INSIDE YOUR HOUSE!
