TAMPA, FLORIDA -- If you are a LATINO, do not go to this dealership. I called on behalf of an employee who's English is not his first language. I provided his VIN # and got an estimate to replace a drivers side mirror. The cost quoted installed was $144.87. I told them to order the mirror and we would bring the car in. They asked if we needed and estimate and since we had already been given one and custom ordered the mirror my Latino friend said no thank you we know the price. When we went to pick up the car it was $325 for the mirror. This are the most dishonest, RACIALLY DISCRIMINATING bunch of service people I have ever seen. I called and asked to speak to the manager by no one ever called me back. I have bought 3 cars from them and will never go back! I am not a LATINO but I saw first hand how they will rip you off!

What the OP is saying, is that he called for his Latino friend and was estimated the price of $144.87....but once his Latino friend took his car in, they charged him $325.00. The way the OP sees it, is that they upped the price on his friend once they seen he was a Latino.

I would have questioned them...though the price was JUST an estimate, they should call before doing the actual work when there's that much of a difference in price.

I'm a bit confused as well. Did the $144.87 estimate come from the dealer? If so, what was the estimate from whoever else supplied one?

Did the $144 estimate include labor? What was the explanation for the difference between the $144.87 estimate and what was charged?

I can't tell if this is a racial thing or a matter of lack of communication.

I was going to ask the same thing trm. I would think though with the customer asking for the mirror to be 'replaced' that the dealership would understand that labor would be needed... but who knows.

"They asked if we needed and estimate" Get it in writing while they are actually looking at the car. On the phone is how they sucker people in, then WAM-BAM the price magically goes up.

Given the prices involved. I think it's more a case of miscommunication than racism. You aren't going to get a dealership to replace a mirror for $144.87 including parts and labor, that's just not happening with OEM parts. I do think that the part itself was $145 and then in the install was another 180 which would be about what the current going rate is for two hours of labor (including taxes), which would sound like a reason book rate time for the job. The numbers are reasonable when you break it down. I think they just quoted you the cost of the part on the phone and quoted your friend the cost of full job when he got there and it was discovered that he didn't just want the part. The fact that they asked you if you wanted and estimate further supports the scenario as why would they give you an estimate if they just quoted you a price for the job over the phone on in the first place?
