Expedia travel booking - Complaint
Used Expedia to try to book 2 rooms for a family visit to Saratoga Springs NY. I told the Expedia agent over the phone that I needed 2 rooms for both Thurs. & Fri nights & the dates. The told me the rooms were available but that any booking would be non-refundable. I wanted the rooms so I continued with the booking. The agent asked me for my credit card number & took it for the Thurs. night booking 1st. I thought this was a bit odd but gave the info. After much time, the agent told that, sorry, but the hotel just told her that the Fri. night was all booked. I said this was no problem as long as I could cancel the reservation for Thurs. night she just made. This Thurs. night only booking took over a half hour. Then when the agent announced that Fri night was booked, instead of simply cancelling the Thurs. booking she had just made, she told me I had to speak with customer service. I then spent another frustrating 1/2 hour with customer service trying to cancel the Thurs. night only without success. Bottom line the customer service person told me I could not cancel my reservation. This led to much frustration. I called the credit card company to cancel the charge. I also called the hotel to explain the situation & try to cancel the booking directly. The hotel clerk told me that Expedia didn't know what it was doing & that in fact Expedia had booked 1 room for both Thurs. & Fri. night. I spoke to the hotel manager to explain the situation. Fortuneately, the manager was able to find another room so we could proceed with our trip as planned. Expedia wasted my time, caused much frustration & I ended up booking my trip directly with the hotel. I would never use Expedia again.
