Restaurant.com - Rip-Off on Gift Certificates. Terms & Conditions Not Disclosed Until After You Order
I received an email from Restaurant. Com that looked like a good deal. They were offering a $25.00 gift certificate for $10.00. You put your Zip Code in and a list of many restaurants in your area comes up. I selected a very nice Seafood & Grill Restaurant close by. They are pricey but have a reputation for really good food. I took the bait and ordered four $25.00 gift certificates ($100) but it only cost $40.00. This was a $60 dollar savings. I did the math and figured that I had $100 to spend for dinner. They did disclose that a 18% percent gratuity is added to the check and there is a $50.00 minimum, this sounded fair.
After I paid with my C. C. and printed the Gift Certificate the specific Terms & Conditions were then disclosed. They don't tell you this when ordering.
Special Instructions: Excludes Saturday. Valid for dinner, food, dine in ONLY. Excludes Holidays/Special Events. (okay, I can live with this)
Here's where they get you, pay attention.
Only one (1) Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate may be redeemed per party, per month, per restaurant, even if the party is seated at separate tables and/or receives more than one check.
So the four $25 gift certificates cannot be combined in one visit. You have to go four times, spend a minimum of $50.00 each visit and have an automatic 18% gratuity added to your check. I won't make this mistake again.
