Chumbo.com Complaint - Panasonic Plasma TV

WISCONSIN -- I placed an order for a Panasonic plasma TV before Thanksgiving. Free shipping was advertised on the item. As the saying goes: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Before placing the order, I phoned their toll-free number to inquire about a pedestal stand and confirm the free shipping. I was put on hold while the clueless sales dept. phoned a buyer about the item. The sales rep reassured me that a stand would be included. There were no options for stands or wall mounts on their website. I placed the online order on Monday. I received a voicemail on my home phone the next day from the sales manager saying he had just received word from the shipper that there would be a $100 "white-glove" delivery charge. So much for the free shipping. I asked to have the TV delivered by Friday, but was told that would be an additional $200 above the extra $100 white-glove charge for expedited delivery. 3 business days is expedited shipping??? They emailed me a tracking number, but included no website or toll-free number to phone to track the delivery. I had to call their customer service several times to inquire about the shipping. I got a total of 3 800 numbers for trucking companies. At least one had no record of my tracking number. I set up a delivery date and time. The TV arrived without a stand. When I phoned Chumbo.com, they refused to overnight deliver a stand, blaming Panasonic. I was told to get hold of Panasonic for a stand, most likely at an additional charge. Since I couldn't stand the TV up to check the screen and the item was not delivered as advertised, I had to refuse delivery. The sales manager hung up on me after he told me he could not credit the purchase until it was received back at their warehouse. I got a better deal on the same item from Amazon.com with free shipping. I suggest buyers avoid Chumbo.com. They may lure you in with a low price, but you will pay for add-ons. They seem to have little knowledge of their products. The only redeeming thing I can say about Chumbo.com is that they have real live bumblers answering their phones. I don't feel they should be online retailers when they don't know shipping charges in advance, don't list accessories, don't ship what they said was included with the purchase and don't even specify if items are new or refurbished. Chumps + bozos = Chumbo.com
