Maytag MVWX600XW Rim on Top of Basket

Our Maytag MVWX600XW washing machine is 15 months old. There are just 2 of us using it so it is not overused. The plastic rim on top of the basket is deteriorating. I'm sure that this is happening to all Maytag washing machines of this style. There needs to be a class action lawsuit to get them repaired for free. (We called Maytag and they said that there is only a 12 month warranty). These machines should not be wearing out in only 15 months! We have a repairman coming tomorrow that wants $129 just to look at it.
