I use Google all the time and find what I want almost all of the time after my first or second search. That said, I know some people like Bing or Yahoo better... Have you tried those search engines?

I've used google for many years without problems

You might want to re-word what you're searching for. I use all kinds of searches and found if I don't get the results I'm looking for, sometimes it just takes re-wording the search.

DB is right on point, re-word what you are searching for. And that is immature when the OP said he dislike the people that came up with the idea.

Back in the early 90's I worked at an academic institution, and the librarian was a huge advocate for Google, at a time when I thought Yahoo! was the bee's knees.
Google ended up kicking Yahoo!'s butt, and in the last week that person from Google jumped ship and is going to be the CEO of Yahoo!, possibly to see if they can compete with Google again.
I think you just aren't using it to its full potential. The few times I have used Google (I'm a stick in the mud), I got great results.

Google for good reason is the big dog on the block. They are the premier search engine. As DB correctly pointed out sometimes you have to re-word it. Here's an example. If you're searching a name put "quotation" marks around it. This will narrow the search and probably give you what you're looking for.

If you put your request in quotes you will get back much tighter results. ie: "Google", instead of Google.

It was the early 2000's, not the early 1990's, that I worked with a librarian who saw the superiority of Google over its competition. Her other choice was Webcrawler - I don't think she even stooped to using Yahoo!.
Thanks to a rude comment posted on another website by someone who appears to have to comment on everything that happens here, I was able to see I had made an error.

I never even think about Yahoo searches, but when I type in my search on Google, the search word(s) automatically fill in on Yahoo in my toolbar...I just figured it searched both at the same time.
8er! 8er! I used to be a librarian in high-school!
Who wanted to be a cheerleader anyway? Not me!
