Pay Pal Phishing?

Complaint

My email address has variant spellings of my name in it. Several weeks ago I got an email from Pay Pal thanking me for opening an account with them. I hadn't, and their message was sent to my email address under the name Tom Lee from China. I responded to their security dpt and to date I've gotten about 10 more emails from PayPal, slobbering all over Lee and calling me a Phisher. All their emails to my e address go to dear Mr Lee and as yet I'm unable to convince the incompetents at PayPal that I'm the victim.

Today I contacted our State Attorny General to investigate.

Do you want these people at Paypal handling your money?

I get Phishing Emails from PayPal all the time. I don't open them, they are usually titled regarding a PayPal payment problem and since I haven't used PayPal for awhile, I don't even open them anymore.

I believe a true PayPal email will have your actual name in the Greeting, Phishing emails will only state a generic greetling like 'Dear PayPal customer' or something like that.

My junk mail is full of these Phishing scams. Western Union, AMEX, Norton, Delivery Failure, UPS, Fed-Ex, You Have won!, Bank of America....the list goes on and on. DB said it best, Don't Open Them!! This crap gets you in trouble, just delete it. Legitimate companies generally don't contact you by email if there is a problem. They use snail mail or will call you directly. Be smart and don't fall for the scammer's tricks.

Another bit of advice I can give you...if you DO business with those you are 'supposedly' getting these Emails from...don't open the Email just delete it THEN go to the OFFICIAL website by typing it in...if there IS any problem with your account, you will have a message from them on yor account page...but never, click on the link in the Emails.

If you get an email from PayPal or ebay, and possibly other firms, and it uses your email address of screen name. do not open it. forward it, unopened to www.spoof@the appropriate company. They have the setup to handle these phishing enmails. If the email is addressed to your name, then it is usually legit.
