Hertz Corporation - Never Rent a Car From Hertz - They Are Cheating!

MIAMI AIRPORT, FLORIDA -- Never rent a car from Hertz!
Being in Miami, Fl. a month ago I rented their car. They warned that their fuel is more than twice expensive than from gas station, so returning the car I fueled it up to the top of the tank at the nearest gas station. They checked everything carefully when I brought it back to them. But yesterday, a month after, I got a letter from them stating that despite I returned the car with full tank, when the vehicle was serviced for the next rental, 7.68 gallons of gas were needed to refuel the vehicle.
So they decided to correct my rental charges and to charge my debit card for additional $71.35. Can somebody imagine that the client can be held responsible for what happened to the car after he returned it back?
What shall I do in such situation except never ever rent a car from Hertz?

When the car was returned, was something signed by an employee acknowledging the car was returned with a full tank and free of any damages? Even if there isn't, you should dispute the charges with your credit card company. And where do they get off charging $10 a gallon for gas?

It may be more difficult to contest because the OP used a debit card, not a credit card. It is always better use a credit card so you can dispute it through the credit card company, not the bank.
Also, when you turn the car in, my experience is that they look at things like amount of fuel, and put that on the receipt. I always check to make sure they list it as full.
