car rental and hotel room - Complaint

HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA -- Ok so I went to the bay area to check out California state university east bay and I found in Hotwire some excellent prices for a hotel room and car rental service. Ironically enough I found that doing the services separately versus in a package saved me a lot more. But that's not the issue here. What I found to be truly surprising was that for both the hotel and car rental place you have to put down a security deposit on top of the money you already spent for the services. So I did some research as to why Hotwire didn't add this info for neophyte reservationists like myself. And I found that other discount did indeed add in the disclosure of the deposits, whereas Hotwire does not. Had it not been for the customer service of the car rental company and the hotel, I'd been screwed out of a room and a rental car. I will never use Hotwire again. What an unfortunate mistake of a discount site.

Here's some advice for you, "Neophyte Reservationist": Use Hotwire, or Hotels.com, or other third-party sites as research into places near your destination.
Then, call the hotel or rental agency directly. Or use their own websites.

The problem may be the use of a debit card. On a credit card, they would just charge the card for any additional costs. With a debit card, they have to put a hold on an amount in the bank account as security. It is better to use a credit card.
