Bank One Informative - Is Bank One trying to steal our money? - Savings Accounts - Dormant Accounts

Savings Accounts - Dormant Accounts
Review by Sierra in Michigan on 2005-12-11
MICHIGAN -- I have a small savings account at Bank One that I primarily used for overdraft protection.

Bank One seems to have this policy in which they classify accounts that have not had deposits/withdrawals within a certain period of time as DORMANT, in which after they are classified as DORMANT - they basically seize your money.

I have called Bank One and sent them emails to remove the dormant status of this account - but have been unsuccessful as they state that I am required to visit them in person or write them a letter (I thought that was what I was doing when I sent them an email from my via my online account....).

What is really ridiculous about this - is that I have several other accounts at Bank One and this one in particular is linked to my checking account - which is very active.

I feel that Bank One's policy on this issue is bascially an attempt on their part to steal our money.

Has anyone else had this very unpleasant experience with Bank One. I am so angry about this that I am now researching other banks and will never use them (or Chase) again.

Again...If you have a full time job, just deposit a buck in it to activate it again...if they say you need to come in person or write a letter, why are you calling and sending e-mails? I know you said you work full time...but when they tell you what you need to do and you don't, then it isn't their fault.

I understand how you feel. As of right now the bank I use to know as Bank One is Chase now. I have posted my story on what they have done to me with my IRA account. They have basically stolen my money. All I can do is let consumers know. I'm trying to find other ways to deal with them. It is a shame to be a loyal customer and be treated this way

Hi Siera
I was quite happy to see that someone else is also having the same problem with dormant accounts I was beginning to think I was the only one I think they are trying to steel my money I have phone the bank and was told to write a letter I have done as they ask and have written a number of letters to the bank requesting that they remove my account from the dormant state and have not had one single reply to any of my letters also I’m unable to see my account on the net that has also been blocked
Cindy if you have had any luck with getting your account released from the dormant state please let me know how I must go about it I hope I don’t have to go personally to the bank as I live in England

Kind regards
Derek
