Goodyear TA Tire - Complaint

GREAT FALLS, MONTANTA -- Had a Flat. They said it couldn't be repaired. They also said because Goodyear changed tread pattern that I had to buy 2 tires. If I only replaced ruined tire they could not mount it on car because tread diameter would not be the same and would affected the differential.(tires on rear on front wheel drive) Had to pay $15 each for new road hazaard. So I paid $100 to replace 2 tires that had about 15,000 miles on them. Do they get a commission on tires?

The tires on each side of the car, front or rear, should have the same diameter.

Seems to me the tread pattern shouldn't affect the diameter on a tire of the same exact size. However, the handling could be a bit less than optimum.

Why not utilize your spare to enable you to shop around for a matching tire?

A couple things to remember about tires

1. The tire size (and ideally the tread type) should be the same on each axle.

2. If you have AWD or 4WD then all the tires need to be the same size. If you have AWD then all tires *need* to be practically identical even 15,000 miles on wear on the other tires will be enough to damage the center diff.

3. If you have a limited slip diff or locker, then the two tires on that axle should be the same.

4. If you're buying a pair of tires the tire retailer will almost always put the new tires on the rear. It's an industry standard.

With that side if you got two tires for $100, then you got an excellent deal. Tires for my car run about $200 a piece and last for maybe 25k-30k miles. I do think it was a good idea to replace both tires after 15k miles, that's enough a difference in tread depth for weird handling characteristics to manifest themselves.
