BRUNSWICK, MAINE -- Time after time mapquest has gotten the turn directions WRONG! I have wasted so much time, gas and miledge following incorrect instructions on directions from mapquest. I don't know if Google maps is any better I have heard similar complaints about googe maps!

I always write down the directions and also a cartoon of the map. Then as I go, I compare what I am seeing on the road to what I expected from the directions. Using this technique, it's fairly easy to catch errors.

It's technology, and it's free - so, I try to roll with the punches. The times I have gotten off track was due to my interpreting road features differently than the computer did.

Teen.olie and I recently encountered road construction on our college tour. The GPS on our phones was extremely helpful--after Teen.olie mapped our routes.

I'll learn. We've discovered that I need to see a BIG map, as well.

On the other hand: Three summers ago, the neighborhood cocktail hour consisted of sitting on our porch, watching people who had ignored the "Road Closed" signs, pulling up to our intersection. There was literally a drop of 6 to 8 inches between "road" and "intersection".

Folks would pull up to the last possible inch, past at least 3 warning signs, and proceed to yell at their GPS devices. For us, add a beer or glass of wine, and some finger foods, and we were good to go for the evening.
