JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY -- I ordered a 'free 30-day-trial of this cosmetic product - $1.99 and 'if I'm not happy, I just have to send the bottles back'. Already, I'm not happy. My parcel arrived and I had to pay over $25.00 duty on it.

I wrote an email to this effect as well as cancelling my 'account' They insist that I return the bottles, but I gather from other complaints that their charge card keeps being charged $69.95 until they change their credit card number. She was not in the least courteous and it sounded as if she was taking her calls in 'call center' I had quite a discussion with the woman who told me that I had to return the shipment at my expense and I gave her a short lesson in economics after first asking what the actual cost of the product was.

She informed me that the value of the product was exactly how much I was billed. I then asked if she worked for free - she didn't get the concept but, nevertheless, she got the message. I have spoken to my credit card company and was told that, I can dispute any charges that show up. This is a nuisance but I'm Scottish and stubborn and we'll see how it turns out.

So - again - Buyer Beware! I don't know if I will Win this 'fight' but charges to credit cards which aren't authorized can be disputed.

I duty is a function of your tax-happy government. That's not Hydroxatone's doing. But yes, most of these mail order outfits work on subscription basis. They'll send you the item for whatever it is they advertise it for, but at that time you are automatically added to a subscription service where they continue to send the product usually on a monthly basis and they charge you the "regular" price. The "regular" price is always significantly higher than what they advertise the product for. And to stop them from sending you more product and charging you for it you have to call them and tell them to stop. This is usually disclosed in the small print during the ads. It's common practice for a number of mail-order products in the U.S.

Duty fees are tariffs imposed on the product from your government. Hydroxatone has nothing to do with that. It says right there on their terms that you have to return the product within 30 days if you are not happy. Be a smart consumer. I called my credit card company and notified them Hydroxatone is not authorized to make any charges.

Their product doesn't work, It's glorified sunscreen lotion. and it's way overpriced. It also feels incredibly oily, heavy and greasy. For $70 an oz, I expect much better quality.

Aveda and Nu Skin work far better.
