NANUET , NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Two or three years ago I went to the franchise of Maaco to get my civic`s front bumper changed because it had a dent. The expert came out and suggested full car repainting and he gave me options. I could select one of 3 grades of paint. I opted the most expensive.
But what they did was simply fooling me. They used the cheapest paint and the glow of car vanished within a month.

When I went to make a complaint the thug who cheated me had vanished. The new guy said there was no record of my car painting at their office because the earlier franchise had taken away his computer and the data was with him.

Now a days my beloved car is a sorry sight. The paint is glowless. No wax can save it. No painter is ready to repaint it because he has to remove the existing paint fully before applying a new coat of paint. It is too expensive.

Getting a car painted these days is tough! You have the places like Maaco who are cheap, but do a horrible job (no masking, overspray, fading/chipping/peeling paint). Then you have the guys that will do a good job but charge enough to buy a new car!

Uh-oh, you got Maaco'd.

I had bodywork done on two of my cars over the years, both at the same shop. They did an excellent job, but it cost a good amount of money. They were paid by insurance.

It would be quite an extravegance for me to pay cash for a car to be painted - so much so I probably would sell it and buy another first.

trmn8r, I believe that may be why it costs so much to have a car painted. Shops have found that they can charge more to insurance companies, making a new paint job out of reach unless its due to an insurance claim.

As with so many other things in life you get what you pay for. These days a quality paint job will set you back at least $1500-$2500. A high end paint job will be at least double that. Even Maaco's "top" choice would be considered bottom basement for a real body/paint shop. I worked part time for a local independent shop, while in college and about 25% of our business were people who first took their car to Maaco and were unsatisfied with the results
