Best Buy - Horrible Customer Service

Microsoft Office for Home & Student - Complaint

AUBURN, MAINE -- I read my Sunday newspaper and saw that Microsoft Office for Home & Student was on sale for $99.99 ($50. off regular price). Exactly 11 business hours later I walked into the Auburn, ME store and was told they were out of stock. No offer to see if I (or they) could get if from another store, not even an apology. Never again will I darken the doors of ANY Best Buy (and I used to love shopping there). I drove to a Staples store and got it for the same sale price -and they even thanked me for doing business with them.

Having worked at BBY some years ago, I'll say this; if you intended to get in on the Sunday sale items, you have be at the door before the store opens, if you're later (like more than 1 or two hours after the store opens later)chances are that the majority of good deals will be sold out.

I remember one Sunday morning when we had a $299 laptop doorbuster for sale (this was back before netbooks, so $299 for a laptop was a good deal). We had 22 in stock. And within an hour of the store opening they were all sold. Like I said before, you have to be quick.

Also they didn't make an effort to see if they could get it from another store because it's a loss leader and they have no interest in having an item that they are going to lose money on shipped to their store. They could've looked up the other store's inventory but IIRC the inventory system only updates every hour or two so there's guarantee that the other store would have a copy by the time you arrived.

Simply informing you that they are out of stock doesn't constitute "horrible" customer service. Glad it worked out for you in the end though.

You can always use the Best Buy website to verify that a particular store has the item in stock. I don't shop at Best Buy often because I don't like the fact that they allow customers purchasing electronics to cut in line but when I do, I always check the website to make sure my local store has what I need before I drive across town. When you check store availability, it also tells you the inventory status at other stores within a certain radius. I'm not excusing the customer service you received, by the way.
