MACHESNEY PARK, ILLINOIS -- I received a deposit request stating that our payment has been late every month for the last year we have been at our new address. I am disabled I received my check once every 30 days the billing cycle is every 21 days, not even allowing time for mail service..When I called to protest after 45 minutes on the phone the CSR stated that they can allow me an additional 5 days to pay but I would need to talk to a manager to waive the deposit so they put me on hold for another 45 minutes. The manager then gave us an additional 5 days (total of 10 days) to received payment before being considered late but again would not remove the $200.00 deposit request so needless to say we will be struggling for the next 3 months trying to pay this deposit request with our already escalated summer cooling expense. I am very unhappy with the way this company conducts its business in fact it should be illegal everyone should be afforded 30 days to pay a bill not 21 days..

this is not uncommon for non-secured providers of services.

I believe it is illegal (by federal regulations) for them to be billing you in windows of less than 28 days. That doesn't sound right. Contact your state's untility commission and find out what the local laws are in your state and see if they can help you out with this.

I doubt that the billing period is only 21 days total, and not once a month. That would mean an extra billing every year, with the accompanying waste of money. It may be that it is only 21 days from time of issurance to payment, which gives enough time to pay. If I were the oP I would ask about the billing cycle.

The fact that you're disabled is absolutely irrelevant. 21 days to pay a bill for something you've already bought is more than fair. If you still need more time, put it on a credit card and float it for another 45 days or so. If you really think you've been treated unfairly, then contact the Citizen's Utility Board (CUB), but from your description, it doesn't sound like you're being treated unfairly at all.
