JACKSON, CALIFORNIA -- I entered into a 2 yr contract with DISH for Wild Blue internet services (satellite). My service started on June 1, 2011 and ended July 1st, 2012. I paid all of my bills for services in full, and returned equipment promptly. (Because they wouldn't send the box to mail the stuff BEFORE I climbed up on the roof to disconnect AND because they shut of my service 3 days before my request date -they still charged me though- I was without internet during my move, which was my ONLY form of communication. And I had to drive round trip 100 miles just to pick up the box.)

Sometime into my contract, I upgraded my service. Now they want to charge me for cancelling my contract early, because they changed my start date to when I upgraded. I have called twice to straighten this out, but then received a bill. Sob I used their chat and was told it had been corrected. Now I receive a bill in the mail which is due in 10 days and if I do not pay, it will go on my credit report.

I sent it back with all the information regarding my account. So we will see how they respond. I will never use DISH ever again. Even if it is the only choice. The internet service I did receive at $70 a month was crap, about the same as dial up except they monitor your bandwidth due to some 'federal law'. Watch a few Youtube vids, get a notice and you're cut off.

Whenever I use the live chat for customer service or tech support....I always copy the entire chat then email a copy of it to myself before I log out of the chat. Your situation is a good reason why I do that.

Satellite internet service has unique issues, and these vary depending on what kind of satellite is being used.

As for your service date changing your contract date, this is a classic move with companies such as Dish.

With both Dish and DirecTv anytime you do anything, upgrade equipment, have a service call, etc, it resets the contract time. It is a snarky thing, but the subscriber agrees to it at time of install. I always suggest an independent if you need service such as a location move or dish adjust. As for satellite internet, check around for a WISP in your area: they are faster, more reliable, and cheaper. Look for a strange antenna on your neighbors house aimed parallel to the earth.
