CLIO, MICHIGAN -- Consumer Warning: Don't buy Toshiba products. I just sent my laptop in for a hard drive repair. Toshiba cracked the screen and now wants me to pay $500 for that! I would've been better off not sending it to Toshiba and buying a new hard drive myself!

very helpful!

I agree, I would never allow anyone to work on my computers that I did not know. hopefully you can figure out how to get them to replace the screen free of charge.

I'm sorry, but I trust factory computer service - far more than one of these retailers that has computer repair in house. I used IBM's warranty mail-in service once, and it was excellent.

I personally don't know any manufacturer-approved computer techs, so I have to trust the manufacturer. Other than Dell, that is.

The problem becomes one of proof. The screen should not have been cracked in transit, if the laptop was packaged properly. I can't remember hearing a complaint like this about any company. I would have hoped that if a Toshiba tech did this, they would own up to it. It would have had to have been an observable accident, if it occurred during service.

You may want to file a claim with the company that shipped the computer back to you.
